New ward – Elective Recovery Ward

Elective Recovery Ward

In July 2022, the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust was awarded £14 million from the national Elective Recovery Fund to build an additional inpatient ward, with national business case approval received in November 2022. The new ward will help the Trust increase the number of elective procedures to reduce waiting times for patients.

Although it is not part of HEAT Project Salisbury, the building is aligned with the overarching master plan, and allows for a staged replacement of buildings.

The funds for the scheme are being made available from central government’s targeted investment fund which was announced in December 2021.

The additional ward will support the Trust to increase elective activity, contributing to a reduction in waiting times. The new building will be located close to the main hospital and will require the demolition of two of the old World War Two era buildings. The ward will be accessed via the central corridor of the existing hospital building.

The design team for the new facility are working closely with Wiltshire Council to ensure that the building meets the necessary planning requirements, uses sustainable construction technology and the design is of high quality.

Construction is due to start in February 2023 and the ward is to be complete by autumn 2023.
